Hi all,
Every Saturday morning, I listen to a computer talk show on an a m radio station not too far from here. For 2 hours, they answer people's computer questions, and someone was getting his wife a computer, and was asking how good dell computers are. They told him, that there were so many ads on dell computers coming up, trying to get you to try some trialware, or freeware that's pure junk, and that it takes a good ten minutes to get started. Perhaps it's like msn messenger, and you can't read the ads unless you route the jaws cursor, but my concern is, if it's that bad, and the ads are continuous, the computer could get bogged down just because of the ads. I mean, they made it sound like there were just tons and tons of ads saying, do you want to buy this, do you want to buy that. Has anyonehad any experience with this?

Hello,
I have a blind friend who uses JAWS and got a Dell. The trial fire wall went down, and we couldn't get the damn window with the ad to go away, and no way to remove it. You could route JAWS cursor to PC and look at the ad, and click on a button, but the button to update later wasn't there. Dell computers are known for all of the trial ware and none needed computer programs. This problem also made it difficult for her to use different office programs, where JAWS would quuit reading parts of the screen and things. She ended up calling Freedom and they took her into MSconfig to turn off start up crap that dell had put in there and never really showed up. I am lucky I had a dell sub company build my laptop and none of the Dell crap came with it. I have also seen a quote from Dell for a client and all of the trial ware is just nuts. Plus programs as a JAWS user you'll never need or know about. Oh yeah I am also a JaAWS user.

Hi.
You will get this with neally any big computer company.
I have never found dell that bad, true, they do install stuff on your computer like free triles of aol, whichis most lightly the cause of most of the adds, but really, the last dell i got had works on it well, i didn't need that, but i can see how some people would, and power dvd, which i did need.
They did give me some annoying image thingy, but that was only annoying coz i didn't use it, and it got in the way, but if i wanted to, i could have easely uninstalled all the stuff in under 10 minutes.
But my laptop came with nero, which was pritty handy.
BEN.
Any big computer will give you ads, but the first thing to do is go into add/remove programs, and uninstall all the stuff you don't need. That fixes the ad problem.
hey wonderwoman, i've had a dell for about 3 year's now and with sometime of figuren out wich programs to get rid of and witch ones to keep. now it runs great, i have a dell 4600 with office and really don’t have any problems other then learning how to use jaws with every thing, lol
Thanks guys, You hear a lot of things. All they're selling on qvc now are dell computers, and with the last one, they even had a testamonial line for people who already had a dell, so they could call in and tell everyone who didn't have one how good it was. The free aol trial only lasts 6 months, and I guess it's ok for people who have never had a computer, so they can get started, but I already have an isp, so don't need it. Most of the software titles sounded like things I wouldn't need, though if they have cd burning software to go along with the cd burner, I might play with that at some point. I might try ms word if I ever create another story, but I never would've payed $150 for a higher end word processor.
Thanks for the help folks.
